Geocaching in the Tumut Region

Geocaching is a global treasure hunt using your GPS. "Caches" are left by devotees in various spots and then listed on a geocaching site.  Membership is free and once registered you can download the locations of millions of caches.  Some are easy to reach and easy to find, others require serious hiking or searching.  The sport  takes you to unexpected locations and most spots chosen as cahes are scenic places which are well worth a stop.

At its most basic a cache is a small container with a log book for recording the date and time you discover it.  Some caches are multi clues, one leading to another. Many contain small items to swap while some contain a geocache coin or other item which is tracked by its owner as it is moved by other geocachers from one location to another across the country or even the world.

Visit www.geocaching.com.au to register as a member and choose a mystery tour of Tumut region which is home to literally hundreds of caches.
